Darlene Papke

Darlene McCarty Papke, 87, born to John and Anna Tuell, passed away on Oct. 13, 2018. Darlene was a pianist of both the Eureka Gardens Church of the Nazarene, where she was a charter member, and most recently the Southwest Community Church.

She competed in volleyball well into her 40’s and later organized the officials for Wichita Parochial Volleyball League.

Darlene’s life was dedicated to service to others. She and Leon were volunteers for the Salvation Army. She was instrumental in the creation and day-to-day operations of Wichita Homebound Outreach (WHO), an organization that provides fellowship to homebound seniors.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, “Sis,” and neighbor who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Leon McCarty; second husband, Owen Papke; daughter-in-law, Janet McCarty; and brothers Milton, Melvin, and Dale Tuell.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Daniel McCarty and David McCarty and wife Becky; daughter, Barbara Schmidt and husband Tim; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wed., Oct. 17 and funeral services 1 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 18 at, both at Resthaven Mortuary.
