Dancing girls take field during halftime
Flying flags, bopping ponytails, and giggles and grins were not what most people expected of Friday night’s Peabody-Herington football game.
As halftime, a gaggle of little girls — pre-kindergarten to fifth graders — presented routines they learned earlier in the week from nine Peabody-Burns football cheerleaders.
Coach Denae Pickens has been leading the cheerleading program for the past four years and likes to choose a theme for each year’s camp.
“This year our theme was honoring the United States military,” she said. One of the routines featured girls marching through the number while carrying a small American flag.
After a few cheers and a lot of audience encouragement, the young ladies made pyramids to cheer on the crowd.
