Curbside recycling to begin Jan. 8

Staff writer

Marion residents will no longer be able to have their trash picked up Thursdays or Fridays, as a new program will replace the second weekly trash pickup with a recycling pickup.

The city council-approved Bag It, Box It curbside recycling program will start with the first recycling pickups taking place Jan. 8 and 9.

Regular trash pickup will be Mondays and Tuesdays. Recyclables will be picked up Thursdays and Fridays. Trash set out on these days will not be picked up.

Notices were sent out with November and December utility bills detailing the specifics of the program.

Residents will need to place their recycling in 32-gallon or less containers. Residents can also use cardboard boxes, which will be recycled with their contents.

Recyclables should not be bagged, but placed loosely in containers. Bagged recyclables will not be picked up because plastic bags are not compatible with the single-stream recycling method.
