COVID tally reaches 100

Three cases of COVID-19 reported this past week brought the county’s total count up to 100.

Marion County Health Department reported Tuesday a man in his 30s had a probable case of the virus.

Probable cases are diagnosed when someone known to have been exposed develops symptoms of infection.

A woman in her 30s with a probable case of COVID-19 was reported Friday and a man in his 30s was reported to have a laboratory confirmed case of the virus Sept. 16.

His diagnosis broke a week’s reprieve from cases reported.

Two cases of COVID-19 are active with none hospitalized, the health department reported Tuesday.

People who have been in contact less than six feet away for 10 minutes or longer with someone who has COVID-19 are put in quarantine for two weeks to see whether they develop symptoms of the disease.

The health department has declined to say how many people have been quarantined.

County health administrator Diedre Serene said 1,763 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the county, with 1,663 negative test results.

The health department continues to advise people to stay home when they are sick, practice social distancing of six or more feet away from others, wash hands frequently and for 20 seconds or longer, and wear a mask in public.

Although Kansas Department of Health and Environment released information about active clusters last week, that information has been removed from the agency website. According to the website, KDHE is assessing how to report cluster information in a way that reflects case increases.
