Dale and Kim Nellans of Peabody announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jamie Nellans of Shawnee, to Thomas Smith, also of Shawnee, son of Tom and Joyce Smith of Olathe.

Grandparents of the bride-to-be are Erma June Nellans of Peabody and the late Glenn Nellans.

After graduating from Peabody-Burns High School, the bride-to-be received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Kansas. She is employed at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and recently started her own private practice.

In addition to work, she spends time volunteering for Sunflower House, a not-for-profit center that provide advocacy and training to combat child abuse in Johnson and Wyandotte counties.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Gardner Edgerton High School and the University of Kansas and is employed by the city of Overland Park.

The bride-to-be brings to the union one elderly yellow lab, Annabelle. Together they share one young vivacious yellow lab, Maggie. The couple plan to marry in June in Lawrence.
