County wants road ready for pilgrimage

County Commissioner Dan Holub asked Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford if the stretch of Remington Road between Pilsen and 290th Road could be made into a hard surface before June 2.
That is the date of a pilgrimage to Pilsen in honor of Father Emil Kapaun. Kapaun was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor on Thursday, and the crowd in Pilsen is expected to be even larger than usual for this summer’s pilgrimage.
Remington Road has been a gravel road since last fall when it was torn up after a long decline as a blacktop road. Crawford said it is possible, but it would have to be done quickly to complete it so early in the summer. Crawford said the county would also need a place to stockpiles supplies for the project.
Holub’s idea was that visitors could be directed to Pilsen from K-15 or U.S. 77 on 290th Road and from 290th on Remington.
