Marion County will seek bids to remodel jail and dispatch offices at the jail.
Architect Tony Rangel of Law Kingdon of Wichita estimated the project would cost about $48,000, including design fees, Monday at Marion County Commission meeting.
Sheriff Rob Craft said speed of the project would be important. He said he didn’t want the jailer working out of the basement for six months.
The proposed remodel would address some concerns from the fire marshal’s office, Rangel said.
In other business:
- Road and bridge, appraiser’s, planning and zoning, and sheriff’s departments were surveying storm damage Monday, Communications and Emergency Management Director Michele Abbott said. At least 20 buildings, including three residences, were damaged by the storm.
- Marion County Clerk Carol Maggard will purchase a printer from Infinitech of Hays for $1,249. The model the office previously had was outdated and parts were not available.
- Fireworks sales and discharge will be permitted from June 27 to July 5 in celebration of Independence Day.
- Road and Bridge Department will purchase 16 used 30-inch culverts from Middle Creek Mining of Peabody for $15 per foot. The going rate for new culverts is about $30 per foot, said Road and Bridge Superintendent John Summerville.
- Economic Development Director Teresa Huffman said a variety of bands, street performers, food vendors, and craft vendors are lined up for the Prelude to the Symphony in the Flint Hills, June 12-13. There are 14 sponsors for the event so far.
Commission will meet 9 a.m. Thursday and Monday.
