County settles on S. Hutch center as site for its recyclables
Staff writer
Recycling is being taken to a facility in South Hutchinson after county commissioners Monday agreed to a temporary compromise on a new site.
For now, county recyclables will be taken to a South Hutchinson facility that charges a tipping fee of $98.50 a ton. It’s hoped that will last about 16 days.
When the recycling center at Fort Riley reopens, the county will resume taking its materials there.
Commissioner Kent Becker said he talked to supervisors for both facilities.
The supervisor at Fort Riley told Becker its recycling program has been temporarily suspended and the fort isn’t even operating its own recycling routes.
“I think it would be a temporary fix until Fort Riley can get us back on, hopefully in the next week or two,” Becker said.
Commission chairman Jonah Gehring said the city of Goessel wants to bring recyclables to the county transfer station.
