County graduation ceremonies to conclude with Centre's

Marion County’s graduation ceremonies will conclude at 2 p.m. Sunday when an unusually large class of 29 traditional students and 59 online students graduate at Centre High School.

Although Centre does not name valedictorians and salutatorians, this year’s top student is Isabel Rziha.

All other schools in the county had their commencement ceremonies last weekend.

In Marion, 23 students graduated with the Class of 2024 at the Sports and Aquatics Center.

Grace Hett, Natalie Sigel, and Tessa Mendoza were valedictorians, and Principal Donald Raymer delivered the commencement address.

Hillsboro’s graduation ceremony Saturday for 37 members of the Class of 2024 was marked by a procession to the stage of the Sheri Flaming Center for the Arts.

The commencement address was given by science and engineering teacher and coach Scott O’Hare.

“After 28 years of speaking in front of a class, believe me, this is not easy,” O’Hare said.

Valedictorians Rylie Driggers, Landry Duerksen, Bailee Gawith, Trudy Hein, Annaliese Jorgenson, Violet Klein, Ashley Peters, and Zaylee Werth also gave speeches.

Graduates were presented by junior class president Gabrielle Arnold. Principal Tyler Weinbrenner conferred honors to graduates. Each graduate received a rose before leaving the stage.

The school’s Spirit-N-Celebration singers performed “The Prayer.”

Goessel High School graduated 24 seniors Saturday. School counselor Janna Duerksen gave the commencement address, encouraging class members to “be real” as they progress through life.

Graduates Cheyenne Sawyer and Braylyn Hoopes gave a farewell address.

Jaicee Griffin, Jake Flaming, and Kyle Valdois were named valedictorians.

Peabody-Burns had just nine graduates at its ceremonies Saturday.

Stacy Sattler gave the valedictory address.

Some students are headed to higher education and others are headed to the world of work.
