Cottonwood Falls secures aid for streets

Work to repair streets and improve storm drainage in Cottonwood Falls might begin as early as March now that the city has received a $475,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
City streets have irregular profiles from people parking on chip-and-seal surfaces, causing breakage along the edges, city clerk Bree Larkin said.
Concrete will be placed in a couple of street intersections to solve water flow problems, Larkin said.
In addition, some sidewalks will get accessibility ramps.
The city applied for the loan in September of 2020.
“We also have a community development block grant that goes along with this,” Larkin said.
The total cost of the project, including grants and loan, is expected to be $537,875.
