Center offers special program, meals

Peabody Senior Center correspondent

Highlighted at the senior center this week are special programs for seniors in Peabody.

On Thursday, members will celebrate March birthdays at lunch followed by special music by Steve Hanneman and the band.

Another program offering will feature Becky Hiles from Rivercross Hospice who will share information about the organization and its services. That program will take place on Monday.

Also on Monday, the local board will meet at 9:30 a.m.

The midday meal next Tuesday will be the monthly covered-dish dinner at 11:45 a.m. From 4 to 5:30 p.m., the center will serve a come-and-go style meal to make up for one of the meals that was missed in February due to inclement weather. The makeup meal will offer sloppy Joes, a vegetable, tater tots, and fruit.

Devotions will be offered every Wednesday during Lent immediately after lunch. Peabody United Methodist Church minister, David Ragland, will lead devotions March 16.

Anyone interested in enjoying a nutritious meal in friendly surroundings Monday through Friday is welcome to attend. For seniors 60 and older, the charge is $2.75 for the meal. Others are welcome to join the group and the charge is $4.50.

For more information about meals or activities, contact the center at (620) 983-2226 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Meals may be reserved by leaving a message at the same number the night before attending the center to eat.
