Senior center correspondent
The senior center peppernut factory continues to produce pounds of peppernuts 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Nov. 22. Volunteers are welcome.
A board meeting will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. The deadline for ordering freezer meals for the Thanksgiving Day holiday when the center is closed will be Tuesday.
Coordinator of Marion County Agency on Aging Gayla Ratzlaff will be at the center 9 to 10 a.m. Nov. 10 to assist with Medicare supplemental drug plan programs. Seniors can meet individually with Ratzlaff for information and plan comparisons. Members seeking assistance should bring a list of current prescriptions. A print out can be obtained from the pharmacist or, if someone uses prescription mail service, a copy would be included.
Annual enrollment for plans is Nov. 15 through Dec. 31. Ratzlaff will be at the center again Nov. 22 and Nov. 29 to provide additional assistance.
She also will teach tai chi classes 10 to 11 a.m. every Monday and Thursday Nov. 8 through Dec. 20. Participants are reminded to wear comfortable clothing.
Volunteer help is always needed in the senior center kitchen 10 to 11:30 a.m. daily. The Meals on Wheels program also could use additional helpers, driving or assisting with delivery between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. weekdays. Volunteers eat a free meal at the center on the days they volunteer.
To become a center volunteer, contact Ruth or Arlene at the center (620) 983-2226 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Meals also may be reserved by calling the same number (leave a message if necessary).
Volunteers and new members are welcome.
