CORRESPONDENTS: Peabody Senior Center

Peabody senior center hosted a hamburger cookout Friday evening and served 74 people.

“We were a little leery because of the heat,” site co-manager Ruth Lott said. “But the public really came out to support us and we appreciate it.”

Lott said the Wii bowling tournament scheduled for July 18 has been moved to July 27 following the noon meal.

The center still could use additional volunteers. Anyone with an hour or two a week to volunteer would be welcome at the center. Interested individuals may call the center at (620) 983-2226 or stop by and visit about volunteering.

The center requires that people planning to eat lunch at the center call in the day or evening before. If no one is available, there is an answering machine to leave a name and the date of the meal request.

Seniors 60 and older may eat a well-balanced meal for $2.75. Anyone 59 or younger may also eat at the center, paying $4.50 for the meal. There is no charge for any of the entertainment or programs hosted by the center.

Co-site managers Lott and Arlene Unruh are available to offer more information if necessary.

For additional information, contact Lott or Unruh at the center between 9 and 12:30 each weekday.
