Novak, wind farms

A secondary headline and one sentence of a story last week may have created a false impression that county commissioner Dianne Novak owns land on which a wind turbine has been placed.

As reported, Novak signed a lease addendum releasing any marital interest in property on which a turbine was being considered.

No turbine was placed on that property, however, and she is not an owner of the land, which instead is owned by her husband, Kelly.

Two other turbines were placed on property owned by Novak Farms Inc. Her husband is president of the corporation, but she is not among its owners.

Although a frequent critic of procedures used in considering a wind farm in southern Marion County, Novak also denies that she opposes the project, as reported.

Instead, she says she had not yet made up her mind but is opposed only to “the way things are being handled.”

Although claiming during a commission meeting Monday that last week’s article was “entirely wrong except for one sentence,” Novak conceded the meeting that everything other than one sentence in the article was correct.

The misimpression was created in part because Novak, as reported, did not return calls during reporting of last week’s story.
