Only the Grinch himself could have sat through Marion Elementary’s kindergarten-through-second-grade Christmas concert Thursday without smiling, chuckling, or maybe even tearing up a bit.
Yes, it was that cute.
Julianna Drouhard, vocal music teacher for kindergarten through fifth grades, chose the music.
“I like to try to do themes, but I didn’t this year,” she said. “I chose upbeat music I thought they would enjoy and get into.”
That they did. Each class performed three selections, and then the whole group returned to the stage for three combined songs.
Queen’s “We Will Rock You”?
You know you know it.
The kindergartners pulled off a version titled “We Will Jingle.” First-graders donned black sunglasses and struck serious poses for “Hip Hop Reindeer.” Second-graders did the “Blitzen Boogie.”
There were standout stars in each grade —divas, cool cowboys, fancy girls. Packed with parents and siblings, the performing arts center was energized. The concert ended with “Nice, Not Naughty” — a promise, of course, to Santa Claus.
