Concerned stepmother turns in stepson for marijuana

Staff writer

Charges are pending against a Hillsboro teen after a concerned stepmother turned in a small amount of marijuana to Hillsboro Police on Nov. 24.

Although police have not yet confirmed the amount, Chief Dan Kinning said the teen’s stepmother allegedly confiscated about a quarter of an ounce.

“It’s a tough love situation,” Chief Dan Kinning said Tuesday. “She was looking for assistance with a child that may have a substance abuse problem.”

The teen is also on probation for other charges, he said, but Kinning did not know the details.

He said the teen’s parents plan to alert his probation officers and want to take the case to the county attorney.

“I commend parents for doing that,” he said. “They’re doing what they need to do to help their kids turn out right.”
