Community enjoys quiet Halloween

“We only saw two pumpkins in the street,” Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke reported. “But no one called in a complaint about them. Things were very quiet Sunday night.”

Burke said he thought the new curfew — 8:30 p.m. for people younger than 18 — seemed to do what Peabody City Council wanted it to do.

“There were no violations that we know of,” he said. “I look for the curfew to continue in the future.

“We also appreciate everyone’s cooperation.”

Burke noted that the curfew did not seem to cut down on the number of young children who were out in search of treats with their parents on Halloween.

He said things were equally quiet on Saturday night with no reports of vandalism or curfew violations.
