Clyde Larsen
Clyde Larsen died at 93 years of age, Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Chisholm Place in Wichita.
He was born Nov. 5, 1925, to William and Adelia (Ireland) Larsen, in Centre Township, Marion County, Kansas.
He married the love of his life, Lois Betts, on May 18, 1947, in Baldwin City, Kansas. They had three children, Leah Fay, Phyllis and Bruce.
A graduate of Burns High School, Clyde was a businessman and community leader. He owned and operated Clyde’s Service Station in Burns for over 25 years.
Clyde served as a volunteer fireman, a Boy Scout leader, a member of Lion’s Club, and a member of the 1964-’71 Peabody-Burns school board.
Clyde and Lois moved to Garnett in 1984.
Clyde was a storyteller and entertained folks singing and playing his harmonica, guitar, ukulele, dulcimer, and autoharp.
He enjoyed taking Lois flying in his private plane over the Flint Hills on summer evenings, on motorcycle rides in the countryside, and traveling across the country in their RV.
He was a lifelong member of the Burns and Garnett Methodist churches.
Even though his memories faded, he was always a “gentleman and a Methodist” with a song in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lois, in 2010; daughter Leah Fay; brother Milton Larsen; sister Ruth (Larsen) Aubuchon; and grandchildren Amy (Harder) Carey and Travis Larsen.
He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (and her husband, Ted) Ericson of Lincoln, Nebraska; son Bruce (and wife Joyce) Larsen of Wichita; sister Flo (and husband Larsen) Biehl, brother Lowell Larsen; and grandchildren Jennifer (and husband Jeff) Knake, Christina (and husband Thanh) Nguyen, Eric Vaughn, Nick (and wife Latasha) Harder, Lori Gore, Amy Gillespie, Steven (and wife Amanda) Gillespie, Jenna (and husband David) Cantrell; and 18 great- grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Burns United Methodist Church, with arrangements by Cochran Funeral Home, Wichita.
