City schedules budget meetings

Staff writer

Peabody City Council has scheduled a preliminary budget work meeting with department heads at 5:30 p.m. May 16, in the council room of Peabody City Building. The meeting is open to the public.

Peabody City Clerk Stephanie Lago passed out revenue and expenditure sheets Monday night for review by council members in preparation for the budget meeting.

Department heads will discuss wants and needs for their departments and funding will be discussed. This is the first of several meetings that will culminate in August with a finalized Peabody city budget for 2017.

Council members Megan Holt and Steve Rose are members of the city finance committee.

In other business:

  • Mackenzie Young was hired to fill the position of municipal swimming pool manager at a season salary of $5,500. Her first day on the job was May 10.
  • The air conditioning unit in the public works and police department building quit working during the past week. Council members approved a bid for repair from Flaming Heating and Air for $2,040.
  • Personnel policy changes were approved to bring city policy current with federal guidelines. The city will reimburse employees at their regular wage for time spent at job-related meetings and conferences, as well as for travel time.
  • Union Pacific Railroad contacted the city to announce the installation of a 42-foot monopole communications pole at the railroad right-of-way at RR milepost #208.42 in Peabody. This is on the Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way where the UPRR tracks intercept with the Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe tracks.
