Church Women United was founded nationally in December 1941, and less than a year later a local group was organized.

The final 2011 celebration of the Marion group’s 70th anniversary is World Community Day on Nov. 4 at Marion Presbyterian Church.

The theme of the gathering is “Living our faith, unlocking action.” The group encourages community women to participate as a sign of support for Church Women United, a sponsor of the Marion County Emergency Food Bank.

The gathering will include a soup luncheon at Marion Presbyterian Church.
