Christopher Costello

A celebration of life for banker and lawyer Christopher G. Costello, 67, who passed away July 13, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Marion, will be 6 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Marion Country Club.

Burial will be private.

He was born Nov. 15, 1955, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion to Edward J. Costello and Mary K. Costello.

He graduated from Marion High School in 1973. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University, graduating magna cum laude in 1977.

He moved back home to join his father, Ed, in the family bank.

In 1979, he moved to Topeka to pursue a doctorate in law at Washburn University.

He graduated from law school in 1982 and moved to Tampa, continued his banking career, and joined his father’s law practice.

Chris served as president and CEO of Tampa State Bank for the past 15 years. He also recently served as Marion city councilman and on numerous local boards and committees.

In Chris’s past time, he enjoyed golfing, camping, snow skiing, boating, flying drones, playing bridge, and wind surfing. He also enjoyed water skiing and taught hundreds the sport. He was passionate about his WSU Shockers and rarely missed a game.

Chris was a loving father to three children whom he enjoyed pranking, especially on his favorite holiday, April Fool’s Day. They also enjoyed bike riding and rollerblading as a family, even in the freezing cold on Christmas.

On July 1, 2015, he was united in marriage to Paige Brunner. Their marriage was filled with lots of love, laughter, and of course great food.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Costello and Mary K. Costello, and his brother, Kevin Costello.

He is survived by his wife, Paige Brunner of Marion; his three children, Emily Costello-Kannady (and husband Dax) of Marion; Kevin Costello and Tim Costello, both of Missoula, Montana; stepdaughter Preston Schneider of Wichita; brother Pat Costello (and wife Donna Kay) of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; sisters Cathleen McNamara, Teresa Perky (and husband Dave), and Barbara Loehr (and husband John), all of Overland Park, and Michele Lundy (and husband Bill) of Marion; and many loving nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Christopher G. Costello Memorial at Tampa State Bank in care of Mickey Lundy.

Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Chris at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
