Charles Swarts
Charles D. “Charlie” Swarts, 76, of Hope, died Jan. 16 at Memorial Hospital, Abilene.
Born Sept. 1, 1933, at Peabody, to Clarence E. Sr. and Minnie M. (Ubben) Swarts, he was a foreman of C.E. Company in Enterprise, retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
His parents and three brothers, Clarence Jr., James, and Keith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Pryor and Audrey Biggs of Abilene and Rhonda Whitehair of Hope; two sons, David of Abilene and Darren of McKinney, Texas; two brothers, Wayne of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Leslie “Butch” of Phillipsburg; a sister, Janice “Penny” Fagan of Salina; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Military honors will be provided by a special funeral detail from Fort Riley.
Following the service, Mr. Swarts will be cremated and a private inurnment will be at a later date in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
