Centre tops Wakefield in low-scoring game

The Cougars entered the holiday break with a victory after winning a low-scoring game Friday at Wakefield, 30-24.
Centre trailed 2-11 before closing the gap to 14-16 at halftime.
They tied the game at 18-18 early in the third quarter and took a 22-20 lead in the closing minute.
The Bombers scored just four more points, as Centre added eight in the final quarter to win by six points.
Braxton Smith was a powerhouse at center, driving strongly to the basket and drawing fouls. He scored 10 points including six free throws. Jacob Hird scored 8 points, and Lane Methvin scored 7.
Girls lose, 42-36
In a hard fought game that had a lot of ups and downs, the girls’ team trailed Wakefield 22-28 at halftime but came back in the third quarter to tie the game, 30-30.
They were down by nine points in the fourth quarter before losing, 42-36.
The next games will be Jan. 7 against Canton-Galva at home.
