Centre loses 2 to Canton-Galva
Staff writer
Centre basketball teams lost twice to Canton-Galva at home Friday and once Saturday in a makeup game.
Girls
The girls lost, 34-25. They trailed 10-18 at halftime, but a three-point shot, a field goal, and three free throws by Alex Remmers brought them within three points. However, the Eagles regained momentum to win by nine.
Remmers led scoring with 12 points, followed by Olivia Carlson with seven points.
The team also lost 54-34 Saturday night to Herington in a game that filled a schedule vacancy created by Peabody-Burns not fielding a girls team this year.
The Cougars were plagued by numerous turnovers and missed shots and couldn’t compete with the Railers’ eight three-pointers and overall good shooting. Centre trailed 32-15 at halftime.
Carlson led Centre’s scoring with 10 points, followed by Deines and Katie Bina with eight points each.
Boys
The boys lost to Canton Galva, 68-46.
The Eagles came on strong, scoring 13 unanswered points near the end of the first quarter to lead, 23-10.
The game went downhill from there as the Cougars continued to struggle at the basket.
Mikey Silhan had the most shooting success, with 19 points, including three three-point shots. Luke Hudson scored nine points, and Gentry Holub made six. Hudson had eight rebounds, and Kyle Peterson had six.
Centre’s record was 4-4 after the game. After playing Wakefield on the road Tuesday, Centre’s next games are scheduled to be Friday at Elyria Christian.
