After losing five senior starters to graduation last spring, Centre football is working hard to be ready when the season starts Friday at home.

The roster stands at 14, with five freshmen joining the squad.

Positions were not solidified as this report was written, but the starters will be seniors Cameron Spohn, Lane Methvin, and Chase Kitzmiller; juniors Kyle Peterson, Luke Hudson, and Quinten Bina; and freshman Gentri Holub. Freshmen Nick Krch and Colby Janow are expected to see playing time.

Other team-members are; junior Keegan August, sophomores Matthew Basore and Brendan Powers, and freshmen Dylan Radke and Kaigen Brewer.

The team has little experience, but players are exhibiting willingness to learn and desire to work together, coach Kelly Steiner said.

“We will work to get better every day,” he said. “We will do our best to meet the challenge of being mentally and physically prepared for every game.”

Steiner is in his 11th year as coach. He is assisted by Timothy Vinduska and Jason Stika.

There will be no admission

charge or limit on who, or how many can attend games. Fans will have temperatures checked when they arrive in their cars and will be asked to wear masks while being checked. Anyone with a temperature over 100.4 degrees will not be admitted.

Families should group together and do not have to wear masks if they stay six feet apart from other groups. Students are asked to stay with their families. Groups are encouraged to sit by their car or, if on bleachers, six feet apart. No one will be allowed to stand by the ropes or on the track.

There will be no concession stand. Food and drinks may be brought in but not shared with other groups. There is to be no contact with players before, after, or during a game.
