Centre finalizes building plans

Centre school board last week approved seeking a lease-purchase agreement as partial financing for a new building project.
The project calls for adding a pre-kindergarten classroom, kindergarten classroom, and child care facility to the west side of the elementary school.
A concession stand and bathrooms for the ball field would be attached to the north side of the kindergarten room.
The lease-purchase agreement is not to exceed $1.55 million. The balance of the approximately $2.366 million cost would come from money set aside for capital projects.
Board members agreed to put the building of a new weight room on hold.
No bids have been let yet, so the final cost is not known. Superintendent Larry Geist projected completion by October 2023.
The board discussed installing air conditioning in the gym but that was rejected.
The resolution will be published June 8 and June 15 in the Record. After that, district voters will have 30 days to file a petition if they wish to force a referendum on the borrowing.
