Warrior football suffered a loss Friday at home to Central Plains, 50-0. Up next for the team is a trip to Solomon.
A Central Plains touchdown was the result of the opening Warrior kickoff. A penalty flag on the conversion attempt backed up the try. Wes Shaw downed the runner, but PBHS trailed, 6-0, just seconds into the contest.
The Warriors offense earned two first downs on their first series that included a pass to Braxton Kyle and runs by Austin Savage and Hunter Pickens. The drive ended on fourth-and-11 with a completed pass to Matt Hiebert short of the first down marker.
Xavier Jabary, Shaw, and Lucas Larsen stopped the first down Oiler rush with a gain of 3 yards. However, on second-and-7 from the Central Plains 23-yard line, the Oilers earned their second score of the contest. They also added a two-point conversion run. PBHS trailed, 14-0, with 7 minutes, 1 second left in the first quarter.
The second Warrior offensive series covered the Warrior 24 to the Oiler 24 but ended with an incomplete pass attempt. Pickens was injured on the series and Hiebert came in to quarterback for the remainder of the game.
Larsen, Jabary, and Brody Kyle each had tackles on the next Central Plains drive. The series again finished in the end zone. The conversion was added, and PBHS was down, 22-0, with 1:45 left in the first quarter.
The Oilers added three scores in the second period. PBHS offense went scoreless for the half. Central Plains led the Warriors, 44-0, at halftime.
The PBHS offense had the ball first in the second half, but the drive ended with a Savage punt. The Oilers fielded the ball midfield.
Larsen, Brody Kyle, Jabary, Brent Jones, and Shaw each had a stop on the Oiler drive. On second-and-goal at the Warrior 4-yard line, a Central Plains score ended the game due to the 45-point rule. PBHS lost to the Oilers, 50-0.
Hiebert was 6 for 17 in the passing stats for 67 yards. Pickens was 3 for 6 for 26 yards. Braxton Kyle caught 5 for 69 yards. Savage caught one pass for 10 yards. Seth Topham was 1 for 7 and Hiebert caught one for 6 yards.
Savage carried the ball 12 times for 30 yards. Braxton Kyle had 3 carries for 19 yards and Pickens had five carries for 4 yards..
Jabary led the defense with seven tackles. Shaw earned three and Brody Kyle had 2.5. Brent Jones had two stops and Larsen had 1.5. Savage, Christian Gard and Braxton Kyle each recorded one.
The Warriors’ next game will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Solomon.
