Work on three new limestone structures will begin at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in the next few weeks. One will be placed on each side of the front entrance and the third will house the new directory where the main entry road divides.
New limestone section markers are also in place in each section.
The cemetery board has established a tree renewal program to replace the trees that have been removed in the past few years. Anyone wishing to donate should contact Virginia Skinner or any of the Prairie Lawn Cemetery board of directors. The cemetery board will provide matching funds for at least three trees every year.
The cemetery is now open from dawn to dusk during daylight saving time. With mowing season approaching, patrons are asked to remove all flowers and other memorial items from around graves as soon as possible.
There has been a problem with stray dogs in the cemetery during the winter months this year. Three were picked up Friday and are being housed at Peabody Veterinary Clinic until owners can identify them.
