CDC’s tips on avoiding stroke
- Get regular physical activity.
- Don’t smoke.
- Choose healthy foods and drinks. Eat foods low in saturated fats, trans fat, and cholesterol and high in fiber to help prevent high cholesterol. Limit salt, which increases blood pressure.
- Keep a healthy weight.
- Limit alcohol. Men should have no more than two drinks per day and women should have no more than one.
- Control any medical conditions, including heart disease. Some heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, or irregular heartbeat, increase the chance of stroke.
- Have cholesterol levels checked.
