Catherine Hein

Catherine’s life began Feb. 21, 1919, in Marion County. She is the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Remmers) Ruby. Catherine was united in marriage to William J. Hein on Aug. 5, 1939, in the rectory of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Florence.

She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for 27 years as a nurse’s aid. Catherine was an avid crocheter, making hundreds of afghans and newborn-baby beanies. She loved to read, play games, and do word searches.

Catherine was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Parish at St. Mark’s Church and a member of the Altar Society.

She is survived by her children Richard (and wife Phyllis) Hein of Marion, Phyllis (and husband Claude) Landis of Marion, Walter (and wife Judy) Hein of Marion, Laura Wayman of Hutchinson, Catherine (and husband Bernie) Camien of Emporia, and Linda (and husband Darryl) Brewer of Marion; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister Margaret Hein of Hillsboro.

Catherine passed away June 17 at St. Luke Living Center. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband William; children Vernon and Charles Hein; brothers Arthur, Ralph, Joseph, and Frederick; sisters Annabelle Gaffney and Lucille Weyer; and grandson Vernon Hein, Jr.

The family received friends Thursday at Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Marion, led by Father Brian Bebak, and rosary prayers were offered at the church. Catherine was laid to rest in Marion Cemetery following Mass.
