Carolyn Winter
Carolyn Ruth Neufeld Vogt Winter, 82, died on April 2 at Fairview Fellowship Home in Fairview, Oklahoma.
The viewing was 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pierce Funeral Home in Fairview. A graveside service was officiated by pastor Marlin Hiett at 11 a.m. Monday at North Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.
Carolyn is survived by brothers Leon Neufeld and wife, Karen, of Fairview, Byron Neufeld, and wife, Lucy, of Kingsburg, California; sisters-in-law Nancy Neufeld of Kingsburg and Lorene Smith of McPherson; brother-in-law John Vogt of Hillsboro; sons Ron Vogt of Akron, Pennsylvania, and Steve Vogt and wife, Michelle, of Wichita; daughter Kay Lawson and husband, Jeff, of Richardson, Texas; stepsons Rolland Winter and wife, Jewel, of Denver and Kevin Winter and wife, Kathy, of Sugar Land, Texas; stepdaughters Rachel Winter of Hillsboro and Denise Winter of Sugar Land, Texas; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Carolyn is preceded in death by parents Marvin and Elda Neufeld; husband Gene Vogt; husband Floyd Winter; brother Jerry Neufeld; daughter-in-law Laurie Vogt; stepson Dale Winter, and his son David Winter.
The oldest of four children, Carolyn was born Sept. 3, 1937, in Okeene, Oklahoma, to Marvin and Elda Neufeld.
Carolyn met Gene Vogt of Corn, Oklahoma, during high school and they were married Nov. 25, 1955. They had three children, Ronald, Steven, and Kay, and farmed and raised their family together in Fairview.
After Gene’s death in 1983, Carolyn went to work, first for Mennonite World Conference in Chicago, then for Prudent Tours in Hillsboro.
While at Prudent, Carolyn met Floyd Winter and they were married in 1993. Together, they led tours until his death in 2001.
In her retirement in 2003, Carolyn moved back to Fairview, where she resided until her death.
Carolyn grew up in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Fairview and made a commitment to follow Christ in high school. She took church membership and service to heart and was always involved in teaching Sunday school and committee work at church.
She was a skilled seamstress, sewing dresses for her granddaughters, quilts for MCC fundraisers, and bags for school children through MCC.
Carolyn had a beautiful alto voice and loved singing and attending Gaither Homecoming events.
She visited many countries and all U.S. states. Carolyn’s love of travel continued all throughout her life, including attending family reunions, leading Prudent Tours, and going on family vacations.
Carolyn stayed actively involved in her kids’ and grandkids’ lives year after year.
Her whole life displayed a steady, loving, faithful service to her family, her God, and others. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, all who know her.
