Carl Riggs
Former postmaster of 32 years Carl Eugene Riggs, 79, of Burns, died after a battle with cancer among family Saturday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Burns United Methodist Church with interment following at Burns Cemetery.
Born Dec. 23, 1934 to Thomas Glenn and Julia Marie Riggs, he was a heavy AA fire control crewman in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and received a good conduct medal. He was a postmaster in Burns for 32 years.
On June 2, 1957, he married Niva Jo Daniels and had four children. He was a member of the Burns United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Leroy of Marion, and Howard of Burns.
Survivors include a sister, Bernice Harms of Rio Hondo, Texas; four children, Doug of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dennis of Peabody; Bobby of Parsons, Tennessee; and Brenda Nelson of Cassody; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial has been established with Burns United Methodist Church.
