Relay for Life of Marion County raised more than $49,500 this weekend.
Twenty-two teams participated. More than 70 survivors and caregivers took the opening lap of the relay Friday night in USD 408 Sports Center after unpredictable weather prompted a move indoors.
“A special thanks goes to the many volunteers who worked to make this event a success,” event chairman Janet Herzet said. “We also appreciate the generosity of this year’s corporate sponsors. Relay for Life would not be possible without them.”
She also thanked 4-H clubs, Girl Scout troops, and others for setting up the track Friday morning. The decision was made to move the event indoors was made later in the day.
“We also want to thank USD 408 for allowing us to use the walking track,” Herzet said, “and to everyone for adapting their campsites to be set up indoors.”
The fund-raiser raises money for American Cancer Society research.
