Burdick Labor Day to salute farmers

Labor Day will swell the population of Burdick with people who come for its 49th annual small-town celebration.

This year’s theme is Salute to Farmers.

Sept. 4 will start with a 9:30 a.m. message from Bill Neuman of Hebron Lutheran Church at the city tennis court. He will be followed by a memorial tribute with rolls and coffee.

On Labor Day, registration for a fun run and walk at the north end of Main St. will begins at 8 a.m. The fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. Vendor booths will open at 10 a.m.

At 10:30, Scott Peterson will give a World War II presentation in the community building, formerly the Legion Hall. Information, memorabilia, and uniforms will be displayed.

A bounce house and double slide will be open 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A mini train will run until 2 p.m.

Live music by local band Justus will begin at 11 a.m. across from the community center. Homemade ice cream at the fire station and turtle races at the tennis court also are planned.

Burdick Hustlers 4-H club will serve a hamburger and hot dog lunch by donation at 11:30 a.m. Wild gooseberry, coconut crème, and rhubarb pie will be auctioned at noon.

At 1:30 p.m., registration for a sanctioned kids’ pedal pull will open, and parade line-up will begin in the Methodist church parking lot.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. Flint Hills Community Band will play in the park afterward.

Pedal power and corn hole competition will begin at 3 p.m. Parade prizes and the winner of an octagonal picnic table will be announced.

Tickets for the picnic table raffle will be sold both days in the park.
