Boy, 15, thrown from ATV, seriously hurt

A 15-year-old who suffered serious head injuries when he was thrown off an all-terrain vehicle in Peabody was reported in stable condition this week.
Christian Moore was not wearing a helmet when he flew off his ATV in the 800 block of Vine St. at 2:40 p.m. Thursday.
“I looked out my window and saw a young man flying over the top of his four-wheeler,” said Rick Rehmert, pastor at Gracepoint Church. “He got up in the air quite a way, and I knew it was going to be bad.”
Rehmert, whose church is across the street, and others rushed to Christian’s aid.
“All I knew was what I saw, and I knew we were in trouble,” he said.
“I don’t know if there was any time to think. Everybody responded so well. No one drove by; everyone saw it and stopped.”
Several teens showed up and helped spread the word until rescue personnel could arrive.
Christian was unconscious and suffered a possible seizure before they arrived.
Both Marion and Peabody ambulances responded, and firefighters set up a landing zone at the high school so Christian could be airlifted to Wesley Medical Center.
He was unconscious two days. By Saturday, he was stable but still sedated and had suffered a broken collarbone, pastor Rodger Charles said.
His parents, George and Kari, were accepting scheduled visitors in small numbers.
Rehmart said he had a premonition that he was where he needed to be.
“That gives us the confidence to think that there is a loving God, and that he cares,” he said. “We just need to open our eyes to what might be happening.”
