Boil warning issued in Peabody

Staff writer

A boil advisory has been issued by KDHE after a closed valve at Peabody’s water tower caused pressure issues. It may not be lifted until Monday or Tuesday.

A valve was closed Thursday during an inspection near the water tower but wasn’t reopened because of a breaker issue, preventing the water tower from being filled.

“It hasn’t been upgraded in 20 years,” city councilman and water committee member Jay Gfeller said.

Gfeller suspects that the advisory will remain until a water test is issued, which may not be until after the weekend. Until the water is deemed safe, residents should either boil tap water for one minute prior to consumption or use bottled water.

The inspection was unrelated to the city’s upcoming water line replacement.

Gfeller and other city workers walked through town to hand out fliers with information to Peabody residents in the hours following the advisory.
