The Tabor College football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead Saturday against Grand View University, but gave up 30 unanswered points, losing 44-24.
The Bluejays took advantage of three early turnovers, but Grand View rallied quickly, taking the 30-14 lead into halftime. Both teams scored twice in the second half to come to the 44-24 score.
Quarterback Ryan Nelson helped the team throw for a season-high 252 yards with 244 of his own. He completed 16 of 30 attempts.
Tabor entered the game ranked second in the nation in rushing offense per game at 329 yards, but the Vikings stymied Bluejay runners, holding them to 109 yards.
Cody Coleman led the team in rushing with 53 yards. James Monroe finished the game with 24.
Tabor finished with a 10-3 record on the season, 7-2 in conference play. The Bluejays were ranked 11th in the nation going into Saturday’s game.
Basketball team loses 3 in a row
The men’s basketball team lost first 102-80 in Topeka to NCAA Division II opponent Washburn University then twice at the Hastings College Classic last week.
The Bluejays played tournament host Hasting Friday in their first game. They erased a 13-point Hastings lead to tie the game at 42, but ultimately lost by 10, 76-66.
Saturday, Tabor took on Doane College, this time rallying from behind 20 points. The Bluejays tied the game at 75 with 17 seconds left, but the Tigers regained the lead with a baseline jumper with 4 seconds remaining. Tabor lost 77-75.

The Bluejays begin their conference schedule at 8 p.m. Thursday, taking on Kansas Wesleyan University in Hillsboro. Saturday, they play at 7 p.m. in Lindsborg against Bethany College.
Lady Jays lose exhibition match
Before the start of its conference season, the Tabor women’s basketball team traveled to Hays for an exhibition matchup with Fort Hays State, losing 86-51.

Allen, Daugherty run at national meet
In his third straight appearance, Tabor College junior cross-country runner Joel Allen closed the season with a 59th-place finish at the NAIA national meet Nov. 23. Allen finished with a time of 25:32.57.
Garrett Daugherty, also a junior, finished his first national appearance 133rd in the 313-runner field with a 26:12.32 time.
