Bill Demain

Services for O.W. “Bill” Demain, 89, who died Dec. 19 at Peabody Health and Rehab, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peabody. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. before services.

He was born April 11, 1931, in Offerle, Kansas, a son of Fred and L. Ethel (Priest) Demain. He attended schools in the area and graduated from Dighton High School in 1949.

He later joined the Marines and served in Korea. After his discharge, he moved to Wichita and became active in law work for the next 28 years. He also worked for Dol foods.

In 1963, he married Ruth Weber in Wichita. They became the parents of two sons, Daryl and Doyle.

In 1990, they moved to Grand Lake, Oklahoma, and both were employed by Shangri La Resort.

Bill’s health began trouble him and they decided to return to Kansas in 2004 where they made their home in Peabody. He returned to his hobbies and joy of steel sharpening, gardening, and taking care of his yard. They eventually moved to Indian Guide Terrace Apartments.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Ruth; daughter Wendy Todd of Bellingham, Washington; son Doyle of Douglass, Kansas, daughter-in-law Linda Demain of Haysville, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Daryl; brother Alfred Lou (missing in action in Korea); daughter-in-law Sharon Demain; parents-in-law O.H. (Pete) and Esther (Leuker) Weber; and sister-in-law Glenda Shaft.

Memorials have been established with the Lutheran Hour, 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, Missouri, 63141-8557 or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peabody.
