Beware of Medicare scam
Senior citizens and people on Medicare or with a medical card are receiving phone calls wanting to update or send them new cards, but the calls are not legitimate, according to the Better Business Bureau.
Some callers are saying they have a new medical card and already have the consumer’s bank account number and want to use it for verification. Other callers say they have a new Medicare card to send and ask for a bank account number to verify their identity.
Medicare does not make phone calls about new cards. Anyone who has received calls or fallen victim to the scam can contact the Office of the Inspector General with Medicare at (800) 447-8477.
