Belly dancers are not a common sight in downtown Peabody.

Members of the Mayari Dance Collective and Orchid Moon Tribal performed during the June 30 grand opening of Peabody Market.

New owner Catherine Gilley said it was a good day.

“We had a lot of fun. We gave away prizes, grilled hot dogs for everyone, and handed out popcorn and snow cones,” she said.

Many officials were on hand to support the event.

Among them were Clint Seibel, chairman of Marion County Community Economic Development Corp., and members Jared Jost, Mike Beneke, and Hannah Bourbon; Anthony Roy, Hillsboro economic director; Brad Bartel; Brad Nightengale, Vintage Bank; Peabody council member Jay Gfeller; and Becky Nickel, head organizer of HERO group and Peabody Community Foundation.
