Barnes scores 17 in victory

The Peabody-Burns girls were defeated Jan. 8 at White City, 37-22, but earned a Friday home victory over Wakefield, 40-23. Up next is a three-game tournament at Centre.

White City

The Warriors were outscored, 13-4, in the first quarter at White City. Rayna Barnes had all of the PBHS points with two baskets.

PBHS bounced back in the second, adding 10 points to the scoreboard. Brandee Burnett came through with two 3-pointers. Barnes scored four points. The Warriors’ defense held White City to six points. PBHS trailed, 19-14, at halftime.

Burnett had the only PBHS basket in the third quarter. White City added 12. The Lady Warriors were down, 31-16, at the end of the quarter.

Both offenses added six points in the final period. McKenzie Ensminger got on the board with four points and Rylie McDowell added two points. PBHS was defeated, 37-22.

Burnett and Barnes were the leading scorers for PBHS with eight points each. Ensnminger scored four points and McDowell had two points.

Wakefield

PBHS took a 10-9 lead after the first quarter of play against Wakefield. Barnes led the scoring with six points. Paige Lewis and Burnett each added two points.

The Warriors’ defense overpowered Wakefield in the second quarter, holding them to three points. The PBHS offense, led by Burnett with seven, added 13 points. Barnes had four points and Ensminger earned two. The Warriors had the 23-12 edge at halftime.

PBHS won the offensive margin in the third quarter, 9-8. Barnes had four, Lewis added three, and Ensminger had two. After three quarters of play, the Warriors were up, 32-20.

Lewis led the fourth quarter with four points. Barnes added three points and Burnett recorded a free throw. Wakefield added three points. PBHS earned the win, 40-23.

Barnes led PBHS in scoring with 17 points. Burnett had 10 points followed by Lewis with nine and Ensminger with four.
