Ball teams looking for victories

Staff writer

County baseball and softball teams have got off to a slow start this season with two still looking for their first victories.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro boys, combined with Peabody-Burns, captured their first victory of the season in the second half of a doubleheader Friday against Smoky Valley.

The boys lost the first game 9-8 but got revenge in the second, winning 5-4.

The lady Trojans still are looking for their first victory, dropping both games to Smoky Valley, 12-2, and 14-4.

Hillsboro will be on the road again this Friday to face off against Halstead.

Marion

The Lady Warriors played a postponed game Monday against Remington but were unable to match Remington’s intensity, losing both games.

“We committed too many run-producing errors,” coach Jerry Mendoza said. “Those mind lapses will be worked on and corrected in practice for future games. Note we stopped our memory slates clean and prepare for our next game.”

The Lady Warriors will be back at home on Friday to play against Sterling while the boys and girls will both play on the road Tuesday against Hutch-Trinity.
