Aulne road to get repairs

Staff writer

Three miles of road near Aulne will receive some much-needed attention soon after county commissioners purchase three tons of cold mix Monday.

The stretch of road, located west of Sunflower Rd. on 140th Rd., will cost about $68 per mile/ton for treatment.

“That thing’s been beat up for a long time,” Commissioner Dan Holub said. “They’re past due.”

Commissioners also discussed bids with Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford for buying a new grader. No decisions were made.

Craft gives jail figures

Sheriff Rob Craft shared with commissioners that the jail’s daily cost per inmate in 2013 was $56.82, landing between $39.04 in 2011 and $75.24 in 2012. Craft said last year’s number should become more of the normal since 2013 was the new jail’s first full year.

In other business:

  • Commissioners will wait to make final approval on a countywide burn ban resolution until County Attorney Susan Robson can look the document over. Commissioners made a revision in the ban that gives the commission board the flexibility to implement the ban whenever it sees fit.
  • Economic Development Director Teresa Huffman gave an update of department business and upcoming events. Huffman said she also has been working to plan a two-day boot camp for women at Morningstar Ranch.
