Auction at Marion store postponed

An auction closing out a 40-year-old Marion business, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed to Oct. 1.
HRK Variety Store, first opened by Jim and Bernice Beach to fill a void left by the closing of Marion’s Duckwall store, was sold in 2016 to Augusta residents Joan and John Diver. Joan Diver suffered an injury, and the couple decided to close the store.
Merchandise and fixtures will be on the auction block.
The postponement is because auctioneers Joe and Tish Vinduska, and their son, Mark, have COVID-19.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment ranks Marion County with a high COVID incidence rate. With 17 new diagnoses between Aug. 20 and Aug. 26, the county’s incidence rate is 143 cases per 100,000 population.
In the state, only 24 counties are not ranked as having a high COVID incidence rank.
