Athletes receive state football honors

State football honors were released this week with the Wichita Eagle naming 10 athletes from Marion County schools, and the Topeka Capitol-Journal including four local players.

Of the four schools, Centre was the only one with athletes on the Eagle’s first team. Senior Dalton Stika named to first team as offensive lineman for 8-man Division II, while senior Jensen Riffel made the first team at linebacker.

Riffel was also first-team for the Capitol-Journal’s first team, and Stika received honorable mention.

Hillsboro had several players make the Eagle’s list for Class 1A, with five receiving honorable mention. Senior wide receiver/tight end Hunter Hein, senior running back Caleb Potucek, junior offensive lineman Austin Rempel, sophomore quarterback Matthew Potucek, and junior defensive back Dillon Boldt all made the cut.

The Topeka-Journal included Hunter Hein as a tight end on the first team for Class 1A, while Matthew Potucek made honorable mention at linebacker.

Marion senior Luke Lanning received honorable mention from Wichita Eagle as a Class 1A linebacker, while junior Todd Palic was named as defensive lineman.

Peabody-Burns senior quarterback Andrew Hauck received honorable mention from the Eagle for 8-man Division I.

Goessel senior end Jacob Hagewood received honorable mention in 8-man Division I from the Capitol-Journal.
