Athletes need new physicals

The Kansas State High School Activities Association requires that all student-athletes who compete for Peabody-Burns Junior-Senior High School must have a current physical on record before they can participate in any type of athletic practice.

The physicals must be taken after May 1 in order to be valid for the upcoming school year. Physicals must be obtained on the physical form provided by the school district and pages 1, 3, and 4 must be filled out and signed by the student athlete and the parent or guardian before a physical can be obtained.

Physical forms may be picked up in the elementary or high school offices. They may also be found on the school’s web site.

USD 398 has received information about dates that can be utilized to obtain these physicals.

Students may go to Axtell Clinic at 700 Medical Center Drive, Suite 210 in Newton from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 10. Physicals are $20 each with $10 returned to the school for each physical. No appointment is needed.

Students also have the choice to go to Pinnacle Sports Performance, 800 Medical Center Drive in Newton from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 17. Again, no appointment is needed. The physicals are $20 each and the entire amount will be returned to the school for each physical.

If there is enough interest and enough advance notice, the school may try to provide transportation to Pinnacle Sports.

Fees are payable at the door and no insurance paperwork will be filled out. A parent/guardian also has the option of sending the student athlete to the family doctor where all paperwork will be filed with the appropriate insurance carrier. If paperwork is needed, the student-athlete must make an appointment.

“Please remember that a student cannot participate in any type of school-sponsored athletic activity without a signed physical,” athletic director Ray Savage said.

For more information, contact Savage at school (620) 983-2196, at home (620) 983-2817, or on his cell phone (620) 382-4377.
