Arthur Burt

Arthur J. Burt, 91, of Herington, died March 30 at Herington Municipal Hospital, Herington.

Born May 11, 1918, in Garden City, to Jeptha and Alpha Jones, his parents died of the Spanish flu. He was adopted by Charles and Elizabeth Burt and raised in Peabody and Herington.

He was a rural mail carrier and later was an auto mechanic. He was a member of First Christian Church of Herington.

He married Norma Jean Perks March 6, 1948, in Herington. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 2001. A daughter, Marilyn; a brother, Lloyd; and two sisters, Millicent and Jane, also preceded him.

Survivors include three sons, James of Salina, Charles of Noblesville, Ind., and Roger of Herington; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

A memorial fund has been established with Herington Hospital Foundation and may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S Broadway St, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
