Apathy cancels WRAPS meeting

Staff writer

Peggy Blackman decided to cancel the reservoir tour, dinner, and meeting on Tuesday because she only had six people who had signed up.

She was planning for at least 75 attendees.

Blackman had sent invitations and emails to government entities in Marion County, Hillsboro, Marion, and Peabody on May 10. She also attended a Marion Chamber of Commerce lunch, Marion City Council meeting, and County Commission meeting to remind people.

“Honestly, there’s an awful lot of apathy,” she said. “They complain about the reservoir but they don’t want to hear from anyone except me.”

She said part of the program of presentations was going to explain how much phosphorous is in the reservoir water, a nutrient which helps create blue-green algae blooms.

She added the reservoir could suffer from more algae blooms this summer if temperatures reach the same heights as last year.
