More than $400 was stolen when TC’s What Not Shop in Marion was burglarized between 6 p.m. July 18 and 9:45 a.m. Thursday, police said.
The thief or thieves broke into the antique shop using a crowbar, damaging the shop’s door around the lock.
Once inside, the perpetrator emptied a cash box located below a cash register and then found the deposits from July 18 during the day and from that night in shop owner Teresa Carroll’s desk.
About $200 was stolen from the cash box. A $201 deposit was stolen along with another deposit of an undisclosed amount.
Alice Eby and Caroline Maag were working the counter at TC’s on Thursday. They work every Thursday and lease a large section of the store ,where they sell vintage clothing and dish ware.
They said that they thought perpetrator might have been a vendor or former vendor in the shop because the perpetrator knew where to look for deposits.
Marion police are investigating the crime.
Eby and Maag said they were going to ask Carroll about locking up the cash box and deposit drawer in the future.
