HOPE IN THE HEARTLAND:   Always the same

Gracepoint Church, Peabody

I can barely maneuver in this tech-crazed world. Most of the time I fake it. Someone will toss a techie term my way, and I’ll pretend I have even the faintest idea of what they’re talking about. Megapixels, RAM, blah, blah, blah. I can almost feel my eyes glaze over.

Oh sure, my 11-year-old daughter can do things I can’t. And my 4-year-old son knows his way around mommy’s smart phone, and I don’t. I use a not-so-smart phone. It makes and receives calls. No games, videos, e-mailing, or space-shuttle-launching capabilities. The kids never ask to play with my phone.

Technology changes every day. New gadgets and gizmos are released each year, and quickly become obsolete, buried under the next wave of digital this and computerized that.

Each generation embraces change while needing something reliable and constant. Thank God, that everything we need the most comes from Him. The Bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And since Jesus is the only way to heaven, that’s pretty important.

As we approach a new year, are you searching for something true and unchangeable? Do you have room for Jesus in 2013?
